Agents and providers you speak with

When you call a phone number on our site or follow a partner link, you may be connected with a licensed insurance agent or agency, or with another provider. That agent or provider is responsible for holding the licenses required in your state, and can tell you which licenses they hold and which companies they represent. You should always feel free to ask.

How to verify a license

• Insurance agents and agencies: your state's department of insurance offers a license lookup. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) website links to every state's department.
• Lenders and debt relief companies: your state's financial regulator or attorney general can confirm whether a company is licensed or registered, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau accepts complaints.
• Contractors, solar installers and pest control companies: check your state's contractor licensing board or pesticide regulatory agency.
